Leonard Floyd didn’t stay on the market for long. Just hours after being released by the San Francisco 49ers, the veteran edge rusher locked in a one-year, $10 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to ESPN and NFL.com.
At 32, Floyd is now on his fourth team in four seasons and his fifth overall since entering the league. He spent just one year with the 49ers despite signing a two-year, $20 million contract last offseason. In his lone season with San Francisco, he started all 17 games and put up solid numbers—8.5 sacks, 42 tackles, eight tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a pass defensed.
Falcons Add Pass Rusher Leonard Floyd on 1-Year Deal
Over his 138-game NFL career with the Chicago Bears (2016-19), Los Angeles Rams (2020-22), Buffalo Bills (2023), and 49ers (2024), Floyd has built an impressive resume:
66.5 sacks
412 tackles
71 tackles for loss
5 forced fumbles
7 fumble recoveries
2 interceptions
15 passes defensed
Floyd also played a key role in the Rams’ Super Bowl-winning season (2021-22), starting all four playoff games and grabbing two sacks, including one in the big game.
Now, he’s coming back home. Born and raised in Georgia and a former University of Georgia standout, Floyd will look to boost a Falcons defense that seriously struggled with pass rushing last season. Atlanta finished 2024 with just 31 sacks—second-worst in the NFL.
With Floyd on board, the Falcons are hoping he can help turn things around.
