The New Orleans Saints are bringing back edge rusher Chase Young on a three-year, $51 million contract, according to NFL Network. With incentives, the deal could be worth up to $57 million.
Young’s Journey: From D.C. to New Orleans
Originally drafted No. 2 overall by the Washington Commanders in the 2020 NFL Draft, Young made an immediate impact. His 7.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles in his rookie season earned him the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and a Pro Bowl selection.
However, injuries derailed his next two seasons, limiting him to just 12 total games and 1.5 sacks combined from 2021-2022.
In 2023, Young started strong in Washington, recording five sacks and 18 QB pressures in seven games before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers. While in San Francisco, he added 2.5 sacks and seven QB pressures in nine games, including a sack in Super Bowl LVIII.
Saints Re-Sign Chase Young to 3-Year, $51 Million Deal
Saints Bet on Young—And It Paid Off
Last offseason, New Orleans signed Young to a one-year, $13 million deal, a move that proved to be a smart gamble. Playing all 17 games, Young put up 5.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, and a career-high 34 QB pressures—proving he could stay healthy and produce.
At just 25 years old, Young’s ability to generate consistent pressure was enough for the Saints to commit long-term. With this new contract, he will remain a key piece of their defensive front for the foreseeable future.
